Online fraud is becoming increasingly common, ranging from e-commerce scams to phishing attacks. As digital activity grows, people need to stay vigilant against various types of cybercrime.
Unfortunately, many individuals still fall victim to these schemes and suffer financial losses. If this happens, the most important step is to act quickly and report the incident to the appropriate authorities.
So, what should you do if you become a victim of online fraud? Here are several steps you can take to increase the chances of recovering your money:
1. Gather Transaction Evidence
Evidence is crucial in any reporting process. Immediately collect and save all relevant documentation, including:
Screenshots of conversations with the scammer
Proof of transfer
The scammer’s bank account details
Timeline and detailed chronology of events
Store all evidence in one place to make it easier when submitting reports.
2. Report to the Bank
If the fraud involves a bank transaction, contact your bank’s customer service immediately. Clearly explain the situation and request assistance in blocking the scammer’s account.
Each bank has different procedures, but they typically require transaction proof and verification. The faster you report, the higher the chance of preventing the funds from being withdrawn.
3. Use CekRekening.id
Victims can also report fraudulent accounts through CekRekening.id, a platform managed by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).
You can check and report suspicious accounts by entering the account number and uploading supporting evidence such as chat screenshots and transfer receipts.
4. Report via Lapor.go.id
Online fraud can also be reported through Lapor.go.id, a public complaint portal that connects citizens with government agencies.
Users can submit details such as the incident chronology, financial losses, and information about the perpetrator. The report will then be forwarded to the relevant authorities for follow-up.
5. File a Police Report
Finally, victims can file an official report at the nearest police station by bringing all collected evidence.
The police will issue an official report (Police Report / LP) as the basis for further investigation.
How to Avoid Online Fraud

In addition to knowing how to report fraud, prevention is equally important:
Never Share OTP Codes
OTP codes are confidential and should not be shared with anyone, as they can be used to access your accounts.
Be Cautious of Big Reward Offers
Scammers often lure victims with promises of large rewards. Always verify such claims through official channels.
Recognize Scam Characteristics
Scammers often impersonate banks, companies, or e-commerce platforms. Always verify through official websites and watch out for poorly written or overly urgent messages.
