MEKAR, an online platform for funding Indonesian MSME loans, was recognised as the Best P2P Platform in Indonesia at the Global Wealth and Society Awards 2019. MEKAR’s CEO Pandu Aditya Kristy received the award on behalf of the company in a glittering ceremony at the JW Marriott Hotel, Jakarta, yesterday (22/08/19).
MEKAR’s co-founder, Thierry Sanders, said that MEKAR was very pleased to have been selected for the award. “My team and Lending Partners are very happy with this recognition. MEKAR has consistently been an impactful platform in Indonesia, financing over 48,000 women’s businesses. It is the prudence of unbanked borrowers, Indonesia’s credit cooperative system and Putera Sampoerna’s support that has helped us get to where we are today,” he said.
MEKAR is a leading peer-to-peer lending platform in Indonesia, which, since going online for the first time in 2012, has been focusing on facilitating the funding of loans to MSMEs, especially women’s businesses. The MEKAR platform, https://mekar.id, has been registered with the Financial Services Authority since March 2018.

“We want to help realize social impact and financial inclusion in Indonesia. That’s why we always try to widen our reach by cooperating with financial service institutions outside Indonesia’s main urban centers,” Thierry said.

As of July 2019, MEKAR has facilitated the financing of more than 55,500 business loans for MSMEs in 112 cities in 13 provinces in Indonesia, with less than 0.2% loan defaults.
The award marks the latest recognition of MEKAR’s growing prominence in the P2P lending scene in the country. In November last year, MEKAR was also identified as among the top 10 P2P lending platforms in Indonesia in a report published by global consultancy firm KPMG.
As the recipient of the Best P2P Platform in Indonesia award in the category of The Business Achievement in Wealth and Society Awards 2019, MEKAR has gone through a rigorous and comprehensive assessment process. In a published statement, Wealth and Society called MEKAR a “technically innovative platform” that offers its lenders attractive yields.
